Residential property in Barbados

The west coast of Barbados, the much celebrated Platinum Coast, is one of best-loved locations in the entire Caribbean. It mixes five-star hotels and sophisticated waterfront restaurants with the opportunity for some serious socialising on its polo pitches and beautiful beaches.

At just 21 miles by 14 it punches above its size as an established playground for mainly British holidaymakers and home owners: hence its nickname of “Little Britain”. Business leaders and entrepreneurs, sports stars and celebrities are all regularly seen on island, enjoying its safety and privacy.

Barbados is so much more than just a beach destination. It has been independent for 50 years (in 2016) but has an unbroken association with the UK that dates to 1627. The island is part of the Commonwealth and its property laws are based on English law. It can claim to have one of the best cultural calendars in the Caribbean with an opera season, Jazz week, food festivals and even an active National Trust looking after the island’s historic homes. There is international polo, cricket, tennis clubs and several championship golf courses.

Property choices range from comfortable lock and leave beachfront apartments offering solid rental yields to opulent colonial-style mansions on secure gated estates. The west coast is the centre of the active social scene and over recent years there has been significant interest from international buyers for holiday homes inland from the coast. Golf and leisure resorts on the island’s ridge offer a secure base for sporty families, only a few minutes from the beach but with the benefit of cooling breezes and desirable views.
