The compact and modern Queensland city of Brisbane has wonderful Victorian architecture. It is a truly green city of parks, bathed in sunshine with the bonus of being close to arguably Australia’s best coastlines, the Gold Coast to the south and the Sunshine Coast to the north. Population density is low and the transport system is affordable and efficient.
Brisbane’s large Asian population ensures a good number of excellent restaurants and while it is not on the sea it has a man-made beach in the centre on the banks of the Brisbane River.
Paddington within two miles of the Central Business District is one of Brisbane’s prime areas, arty and hilly with good boutiques and cafes. Property choices include renovated cottages and also Queenslanders, Victorian timber homes on stilts.
Other affluent southwestern suburbs with a good range of family homes include Chapel Hill, Fig Tree Pocket and Kenmore. Laid-back and friendly West End has multi-cultural markets and prestigious Hamilton, northeast of Brisbane is close to several private schools.
