Residential property in Malaysia

Malaysia is divided by the South China Sea with Malaysia Peninsula to the west including the capital Kuala Lumpur and Malaysian Borneo (also known as East Malaysia) to the east.

The country is a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic country with an economy based on manufacturing and tourism. Its geographical variety includes some of the world’s standout dive spots (Sipadan Island for example) and wondrous orangutan reserves.

In Kuala Lumpur as in many Southeast Asian capital cities, glass and metal skyscrapers vie with ancient monuments and street markets to showcase the rapid pace of change. Property ranges from low-level houses to high-rise condominiums. Downtown apartments in Kuala Lumpur City Centre give way to a mix of apartments and houses in suburban Ampang, nicknamed Embassy Row.

Mont Kiara has a mixture of apartments and houses and several international schools while nearby Sri Hartamas is lower-key. Bangsar, to the south, is another sought-after residential area along with wealthy Damansara Heights.

Outside of the capital property interest concentrates on Selangor, the wealthiest Malaysian state, the duty free area of Langkawi which has several resort developments, Penang in the north and Sabah on Borneo where the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) long term stay initiatives have been on offer for over five years.
