The Sultanate of Oman is the oldest independent state in the Arab world. In 2006 it became the first country in the Arabian Gulf to offer freehold title to foreigners within approved tourist developments: Integrated Tourism Complexes.
Oman is on the southeast peninsula of the Arabian Gulf with 1,100 miles of coastline on the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. Its knockout geography covers barren fjords in the north, high mountains, plains, deserts and green hills in the south.
Almost half of the 3.6 million population live in or around the capital and important port Muscat, where property options include modern apartments and low-level villas. There are also several new waterfront communities with extensive facilities within twenty minutes of Muscat airport.
Ruwi is a business district and also one of Muscat’s oldest areas. Today it can be noisy and busy but high apartments offer exceptional city views. Upmarket Qurum and its even more prestigious neighbor Shati Al Qurm both provide easy access to the beaches and several elite hotels and large shopping centres. Property includes apartments and detached villas in lush gardens.
Other popular residential areas include Madinat Sultan Qaboos with many international schools, shops and cafes, central and business-friendly Al Khuwair and Azaiba, immediately east of the airport.
